Some Tips You Should Know Before Installing Your Satellite Dish by David C. Johnson
If you are thinking that you have to do any of the installation, or provide any of the hardware that is required for the installation job when you sign up for satellite TV service from either DirecTV or Dish Network you are mistaken, because they do all of the installation in up to four rooms in your home or business, as well as provide you with the satellite system free of charge when you sign an extended service agreement with either one of them.
The satellite TV system that they give is yours to own but the installation is a one time deal though, so if you move you are responsible for having the system removed and reinstalled at your new residence. They will do that for you also, but it requires a nominal fee and considering all the work that is involved, it is a good deal. Climbing up on your roof is dangerous and if the roof is at all icy in the least bit don't get up on it unless you are suicidal.
You can wait out the winter by mounting your dish on a tripod, or you can rethink your strategy and let the installation pros at Dish Network or DirecTV do this dangerous job and avoid a trip to the hospital. Assuming that your roof is safe to get on, you can then walk around your house with a compass and select a place that has an unobstructed view of the southern horizon that you can mount the dish on.
Before you mount the dish climb up into your attic and see if you can run the cable to the place that you are planning on mounting your dish. If it is accessible, then run your cable and push it through a hole that you have drilled or pass it through a near by vent hole. Don�t chince on Mounting Brackets and screws because they are relatively inexpensive and you want a good sturdy attachment.
If you are mounting the dish to the side of your dwelling make sure that you attach it where you can run your screws into the main framing members for a solid attachment. To play it safe, you should make sure that there are no wires or pipes where you are running your screw, because they have an uncanny way of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Pre drill pilot holes where you are going to screw into the wood to make sure that it doesn�t split and that it gives a good solid connection. After you are done you can then connect the cable to it by using a rubber booted exterior cable connector. Do your final adjustments using your compass and if there is a problem with your signal when you are done, it may be that one of the connectors is on the cable improperly. Use cable clips to attach any loose hanging cable to solid surfaces and then run the rest of the cable inside the house.
