Would that be fixed fish finders or portable fish finders? This is perhaps one of the most important questions you have to answer in case you are looking for the best device to improve your catch - figuratively speaking, of course. Fish finders are wonderful fishing tools to invest in and it does not matter if you are fishing for a living, or doing this as a sport or simply as a way to pass the time. For a beginner I would recommend to buy a more simple fish finder and then step up to a more advanced further down the line. There are a lot of features you have to learn on some of the more advanced fish finder. So if you are a beginner you can save some money by buying a more simple fish finder.
Most people are happy with the LCD fish finders. CRT displays work great but they require a lot of power and they cost a lot more. I don't think a CRT finder give you enough value for you money. LCD finders locate the fish just as well as the CRT finders do (without a lot of unneeded features for the average weekend fisher).
There are many great fish finders on the market today, that will allow the angler the opportunity to search for the elusive catch by way of sonar tracking. What this means is that when you use finders you can see fish below the boat, or if they are moving you will be able to track their movements and perhaps intercept them at another location. This method of tracking fish with the use of finders has made the fishing industry a very strong and resourceful field. Not only are the average anglers using fish finders to locate fish, so too are the larger fishing companies that rake in mass amounts of fish on a daily basis for purpose of market sales to the general public.
Extensive sonar power is essential, but only if you are fishing in very deep waters. Some fishing enthusiasts rarely go to the depths, especially if the fish are biting in shallow waters anyway. But big fish anglers like to attack from Deep Water, and so would other commercial fishermen who may be after some bigger game. If the latter is your case, you need to pursue your potential device's sonar power, because this is literally the very essence of getting a fish finder. Check specifics like: beam, cone angle and frequency.
