When you try to access a .pst file which is located on the NetWare server or located locally on the client’s computer, you may receive any one of these following error messages:The folder could not be opened. The file *.pst could not be accessed because another workstation has modified it. Close and then restart all mail-enabled applications. -OR- The file *.pst is in use and could not be accessed. Close any application that is using this file, and then try again. The reason for facing this problem is that Int21 (Interrupt 21) traces reveal that a file has been assigned JET FF, which is already reserved. If you try to close the file with JFT FF, it will fail to do so. It also explains the reason the system is showing that the file is already open. If you face this problem you will not be able to access .pst files and they may have been corrupted or damaged. Other possible reasons for .pst file corruption are when a user accesses his Outlook account, the mails may get corrupted. The problem can arise due to improper file synchronization and you will not be able to access .pst files. There is a size limit for .pst files and if they get larger than 2 GB, files may get corrupted or damaged and will become inaccessible.You will not be able to access your .pst files in these cases. You need to run Scanpst.exe, also known as the Inbox Repair Tool, to repair the damage in .pst files. You need to exit Outlook and log off. After restarting your computer, you can try to repair the damaged .pst file by running Scanpst.exe. If you are still facing problems you will need the help of pst recovery software.The software will help you to repair, recover and restore data from corrupted or damaged .pst files.
