When you are in the market for an outboard motor, the buyer is usually in a bit of a panic, either because its mid season and his/her trusty old engine has packed up, our it’s the beginning of the season and the new outboard he has been telling his family he’s getting all winter long hans’t even been ordered yet. So, the rush is on! The first thing he does is look on ebay for a bargain.
Now I know ebay is the go to site for everything when you need it fast, but when it comes to outboards for sale, this is not the first place to look. There are reasons for this, firstly this site charges fees to list, and fees on the price of the sale, AND fees on the transaction if the purchaser wants to pay by card or paypal... Who do you think picks up the bill for this? Well it’s not the outboard dealer who has the outboards for sale, he just whacks these charges on the purchase price of the Outboard Engine.
Now whether you are looking to buy Tohatsu outboards or Mariner outboards, the very first place to start is with a search for your local main Outboard Engine dealer. Give them a call and see if they have the outboard motor in stock that you are looking for. If they do then get down there and have a look at it. If the outboards for sale that they have dont fit the bill then they will be able to order the correct one for you.
The most important thing you will get from a main dealer is (in most cases) knowledgable outboard engine sales staff. Now you may see yourself as a bit of a pro when it comes to boating, but the last thing you want is to have shelled out 7 or 8 grand on a shiny new Mariner outboards just to find it doesnt suit Your Boat perfectly! Your local dealer who has outboards for sale will want to help you get the most out of Your Boat, he will advise you on shaft length, the mysterious art of propeller pitch selection, fitting, rigging and much more.
