Helpful Advice on Saving On Your Energy Bills by Rickie Sol
Unless you live in a cave, you have probably noticed the cost of energy has been going through the roof. Whether it is high prices at the pump or your utility bill, it makes sense to take steps to cut energy waste and save some money. Here are a few things you can do:
1. If you have an attic, you undoubtedly are wasting money on your heating bill. Take a close look at the entrance to the attic. If it is a drop down from the ceiling, hot air is moving up and through it.
2. If you heat your home with solar energy, foldable shutters can really make a difference. They should be open during the day when the sun is penetrating the windows. At night, shut the shutters to seal off heat loss through the windows.
3. Choosing Oil For Your Car You cannot use just any old oil for your car. Using the wrong grade of oil can reduce mileage up to three percent. Check your car manual for the correct grade.
4. Clean Car Air Filters Clean air filters on a car can increase fuel mileage by as much as 10 percent. Change the air filter every time you get a tune up.
5. Self Laundry Costs 80 percent of energy costs for doing laundry come from heating the water. Switch to cold water detergents and flip off the heat. You can knock the bill down 80 percent.
6. Water Heating Costs You can save a ton of money by addressing water heating costs. A family of four uses 700 gallons of water a week bathing. Fix dripping faucets and switch to low flow faucets. Doing so will cut your water heating costs in half.
7. The Electrical Grid When it comes to renewable energy, you will quickly hear the term electrical grid. It refers the platform maintained by utilities across the country. With solar, you can feed energy into the grid when not using it.
8. Solar power not only saves you money, but helps stop global warming.
9. Thermostat Control Your thermostat is the method to control much of your home energy costs. Turning it down a measly three degrees can cut your energy bill by 10 percent.
10. Setting Tire Air Pressure When filing your tires, use the guideline on the tire, not in the owners manual. Tires perform differently, so they are a better source for air pressure.
None of these changes will save you big bucks in the next month. Over time, however, they can add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings. Every incremental change saves you money each and every month.
